The red mangrove develops distinctive prop roots that rise above the waterline to gather oxygen, provide stability, and create living habitat for sponges, macroalgae, worms, tunicates, crabs, and filter-feeding invertebrates. In aquariums, they bring that same sculptural beauty and ecological function.

Only propagules can be legally collected and sold in Florida; established trees can never be harvested. We sometimes collect propagules and grow them out in our mud tanks, so you may receive a specimen with early root development and a few leaves already formed.

Care Notes
Red mangroves are slow-growing in aquariums and should not be relied upon as primary nutrient export. Position so the upper portion remains above the waterline, and periodically mist leaves with fresh water to remove accumulated salt. Pods may be floated in foam, secured upright in substrate, or supported using PVC or dowels. Provide stable salinity, strong lighting, and patience because mangroves reward long-term care.
