Digenea simplex - Red Seabroom
When the reef needs a little clean sweep of color.
What You Get
Red Seabroom is a striking red macroalga with upright, sweeping branches that resemble the bristles of a delicate reef broom. The fronds are slender and slightly spiny in texture, giving it a unique look and feel compared to softer red macros.
In the wild it forms loose clusters that sway gently in coastal currents, often anchored to rock or rubble in shallow tropical waters. In the aquarium it brings movement, height, and a clean pop of crimson that stands out beautifully against greens and neutrals.
Why It Is Algaesome
-
Bold color: Rich crimson to rusty burgundy hues add depth and contrast to aquascapes.
-
Elegant movement: Branching fronds sway in flow and create natural motion in the tank.
-
Non-invasive: Grows in controlled clusters rather than spreading aggressively.
-
Low grazing pressure: Many herbivores tend to ignore the firm, spiny tissue.
-
Care friendly: Moderate to high lighting and moderate flow help maintain fullness and prevent detritus buildup.

A Note from the Collectors:
Every macroalga we offer is hand-collected, acclimated, and observed by our team before shipping. While we carefully try to remove other algae, sponges, and tiny hitchhikers, it is possible that a few goodies from the reef may tag along. It is a natural part of receiving genuine wild-collected specimens.
Many species may arrive paler or whitish in color. This is completely normal. Macroalgae shift their pigments inward during transport to protect from light and stress, and color usually returns within a few days under good aquarium lighting and flow.
We ship via 2-day service only on Mondays and Tuesdays to help ensure specimens arrive healthy. You will receive a notification with tracking information as soon as your order ships.
