Description
Nano Florida Nassarius Snails are very small, sand-dwelling scavengers that consume leftover food and organic debris before it can break down in the aquarium. Unlike the larger Nassarius distortus or "Tongan Nassarius" commonly sold in the hobby, these Florida-collected Nassarius grow only to approximately .25 - .5 inches at maturity.
They spend most of their time buried just beneath the surface of the sand, emerging quickly when food is present and disappearing again once their job is done. Despite their small size, they are active and responsive feeders that help keep uneaten food from accumulating in the substrate.
In the wild, these Nassarius inhabit shallow coastal sands and seagrass flats throughout Florida. We collect several closely related Nassarius species from the Indian River Lagoon, so shell shape, color, and pattern will vary.
Nano Florida Nassarius snails are completely reef safe and peaceful. They are scavengers, not algae grazers, and do not clean film algae from glass or rockwork. Their role is focused on consuming leftover food and organic material within the sand bed.
To reduce stress during shipping, Nano Florida Nassarius snails are packed with damp material rather than fully submerged, reflecting how they naturally live and burrow in the wild.
