Galaxaura / Mini Galaxy Algae

Description

Galaxaura spp. - Mini Galaxy Algae

A miniature galaxy sculpted by the tides.

What You Get

A branching burst of rigid red architecture that looks like a tiny reef galaxy. We collect two seasonal species of Galaxaura from Florida waters, each showing natural variation in color and branch shape.

The calcified, tubular branches form compact pom-pom clusters with lighter tips, creating instant three dimensional texture on rockwork. Expect hues that shift with light and depth, from deep red and pink to warmer orange red tones, with some pieces appearing more rounded and others more open or branched.

Why It Is Algaesome

  • Highlights: Living sculpture with crisp, branching form and pale branch tips that stand out in reef lighting.
  • Palatability: Low palatability. Most herbivorous fish and inverts ignore the calcified tissue, which helps it last as a display feature.
  • Care: Prefers medium to bright light and moderate flow to keep its branches clean. Stable calcium and alkalinity support healthy structure.
  • Nutrient uptake: Provides fair nutrient uptake while adding extra surface area and pod habitat as part of a mixed macro community.
  • Color: Reds and pinks with occasional orange tones that vary by species, depth, and lighting.

Sizing and Availability

Each specimen is approximately 1.5 to 2.5 inches in diameter. Seasonal variation in branch density, shape, and color is normal, and individual pieces may differ slightly from photos. Availability is seasonal and limited to periods when these species are in good condition for collection.

A Note from the Collectors:
Every macroalga we offer is hand-collected, acclimated, and observed by our team before shipping. While we carefully try to remove other algae, sponges, and tiny hitchhikers, it is possible that a few goodies from the reef may tag along. It is a natural part of receiving genuine wild-collected specimens.

Many species may arrive paler or whitish in color. This is completely normal. Macroalgae shift their pigments inward during transport to protect from light and stress, and color usually returns within a few days under good aquarium lighting and flow.

We ship via 2-day service on Mondays and Tuesdays only to help ensure specimens arrive healthy. You will receive a notification with tracking information as soon as your order ships.
