Description
A branching burst of rigid red architecture.
About This Species & What You Get:
We collect two distinct species of Galaxaura — one from the Atlantic and one from the Gulf of Mexico. Both are very seasonal and show natural variation in shape and color.
Why It Is Awesome:
- Living sculpture: Striking branching form gives instant 3D texture to and planted saltwater aquascapes.
- Color range: Depending on light levels and species, hues run from deep red and pink to reddish-orange.
- Refugium-ready: Effective at nutrient uptake and provides habitat for microfauna. It is great in refugiums or as a focal macro in the display.
- Science-first care: It contains lightly calcified tissue, an important biological trait that affects husbandry (see Care Notes).
Care Notes:
- Calcium: Because Galaxaura is lightly calcified, stable and slightly elevated calcium levels improve health and growth.
- Temperature: Prefers mid–high 70s°F,
- Flow & light: Moderate flow and medium to bright light bring out the best coloration and keep branches clean.
- Grazing: Not a primary forage macro — its calcification makes it less palatable than softer red algae, so it’s best used for display/refugium purposes rather than staple food for heavy grazers.
Sizing:
You will receive one specimen ~1.5–2.5" in diameter. Specimens vary by season and collection location; color and branch architecture may differ from photos.
