Description
Reef Rundown – Pearly Marginella Snails (Prunum spp.)
Why We Like Them:
Tiny, pearly snails that quietly work beneath the sand surface where other cleanup crew members rarely go. They keep the sandbed tidy without disturbing aquascapes or planted macroalgae.
Primary Use:
Sandbed cleaning and detritus removal.
Diet:
Feeds on leftover food, detritus, and biofilm that accumulate within the sandbed. They are scavengers rather than algae grazers.
Where You'll See Them:
Usually just beneath the surface of the sand bed. They often emerge when food is present, then disappear back into the substrate once they’ve finished feeding.
Macroalgae Safe:
Yes. Marginella Snails do not consume macroalgae.
Ease of Care:
Easy. Their very small size makes them excellent for nano tanks, reef aquariums, and refugiums.
Native Range:
Florida coastal sands and seagrass flats. We collect several naturally occurring Prunum species, so shell color and pattern may vary.
Shipping Note:
To keep them comfortable during shipping, Marginella snails are packed with damp materials rather than submerged. This reflects how they naturally live and helps reduce stress during transit.
